You just pulled off a job in Brookhaven. Next one is somewhere on Oakridge — you think. The phone’s face-down in the cupholder. At the first light you flip it over. At the second you unlock it and wait for the schedule to load. At the third you finally read the address, then thumb it into Maps one character at a time while the light turns green behind you.

You can’t argue about routing or territory sizing with numbers built from timestamps entered fifteen minutes after the fact.

The temptation with an in-vehicle app is to put the whole product on a bigger screen. We didn’t. We picked the three things a driver actually needs between jobs and gave each one a target you can hit without aiming.
The full day’s schedule in time order, with the next job pinned at the top: arrival window, customer name, distance. Scroll it with your steering wheel controls or the touchscreen, whichever your vehicle gives you. If dispatch moves something while the tech is driving, the list changes with it — no pull-to-refresh, no stale plan.
Tap Navigate and the job’s address hands straight off to turn-by-turn guidance in Apple Maps or Google Maps. The address comes from the job record — the one your office verified when they booked it — so nobody is retyping a street name at 45 mph and ending up at Oakridge Court instead of Oakridge Drive.
Change the job’s status the moment it’s true: pulling out of the last driveway, pulling into the next. One tap. No confirmation dialog, no form, no dropdown.
A status tap from CarPlay isn’t a note to self. It’s the same event as tapping it inside the app, which means four things happen before the tech is out of the parking lot:
The office stops answering “where’s my technician?” with a guess, because the board finally reflects the truck instead of trailing it.
There is no text field anywhere in the in-vehicle app. No photo capture, no signature pad, no payment collection, no job notes. Apple and Google both hold driving apps to strict interaction limits, and frankly they’re right to — a technician reading a job description at highway speed is a problem, not a feature.
So everything that needs two hands, a keyboard, or a customer standing in front of you stays in the technician app, waiting for the truck to be in park. On the dash, customer name and time are the largest things on the screen, because they’re the only two worth glancing away from the road for.
Your crew doesn’t all carry the same phone and your fleet doesn’t all have the same head unit, so both platforms get the full experience. Apple CarPlay runs wired or wireless on any CarPlay-equipped vehicle or aftermarket head unit. Android Auto gets the same three capabilities laid out against Android Auto’s own templates, so it looks like the rest of the car’s interface rather than like our app wearing a costume.
There’s nothing to configure. Techs connect their phone the way they already do. If they’re signed in to Dispatch Scout, the app is on the dash.
Worth saying plainly, because this industry has trained everyone to expect otherwise.
